If the task for a mobile robot is to navigate in an unknown or uncertain environment, it is difficult for a programmer to consider every eventuality when defining its behaviour. It is beneficial to develop a mobile robot which can adapt to changes in the environment. One way to make a mobile robot more adaptable is to allow it to learn from experience. The Artificial Intelligence (AI) technique of RL allows a robot to learn from experience through interaction with an environment.
