On automatic generation of human motion for ergonomic evaluation of workplace and tasks
The organization of the production leads very often to define repetitive sequences of movements for the human operators. This working type is at the origin of musculoskeletal disorders and of professional diseases in a certain number of cases. This paper presents work on simulation of the operator movements in its workplace and the software tool developed from it. The goal of these studies is to provide designers with a realistic prediction of human movements in order to evaluate tasks and workplaces from the ergonomic viewpoint. Main contribution is on automatic realistic motion generation in this specific context.

We have done some similar developemt in various platforms. We at VTT have been using Delmia software and some more resent development is based on Visual Components software, we have even created own man models.

Thanks for your questions.
I’m not sur that our software solution can also be used in specifics fields as surgical robot. We only want to develop a tool for analysis and workspace design. Surgical robot is a specific field.
Our solution is developed only for the workspace design.
About PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) as DELMIA, Disavantages are that motion are teaching motions, ergonomics analysis are very insufficients, this solutions are very expensives and it’s difficult to manage without a specific formation. That’s why we develop our software solution.

I cannot really see much similarity between the posture of the mannequin and that of the human operator in Figure 3.
Could you please comment?
Also, do the colours in Figures 3 and 4 indicate the different degrees of safety?

Apart from the ergonomic evaluation of workplace, I can see that this advanced simulation can also be used in the development of remote controlled surgical robot for example, since this research provides a realistic prediction of human movements such as extracting hand movement from video, orientation and the angular values of joints etc. Am I right ?
