Welcome to the Robotics session of the IPROMS2007 conference.

My name is Ze Ji and I am the co-chairman of this session.

Here, there are five papers on different topics, including fuzzy theories applied to system
modeling and multiple mobile robots, a novel robotic manipulator design, a novel algorithm for
multiple mobile robot formation, and a software platform for mobile robot simulation based on
Matlab.

Welcome to the Advanced Production Machines and Systems session of the IPROMS2007 conference.

My name is Emmanuel Brousseau and I am here to co-chair this session, for which we have a very "tasty" menu on offer.

In particular, you will find two papers on condition monitoring that have been prepared by our Spanish and French colleagues. Another paper from Germany presents an new concept for the manufacturing of medical products. We also have a British contribution that describes results in the characterisation of different parallel kinematic machine configurations. Finally, you will also find some results of a European collaboration that took place witin the framwork of the EC project HYMM (Advanced Hybrid Mechatronic Materials for ultra precise and high performance machining systems design).

Investigation of optimum cutting conditions for STEP-NC turned features

This paper is an attempt to fill a gap in STEP-NC research by proposing a method for determination of cutting parameters based on the parameters of turned features. To achieve this, the equations for cutting parameters were investigated to identify the effects of the variations in the feature parameters on the optimal values of depth of cut and feed. The result of the investigation is a set of data for optimal machining in terms of feature parameters which can be used in machining planning of turned components.
