• This work deals with the problem of material behaviour modelling using a neural network (NN) approach
• The remarkable NN prediction capability is employed to reconstruct the work material rheological behaviour for strain rate and temperature values
• In previuos paper*, the rheological material behaviour modelling of mild steel under hot forging was attempted through NN prediction of the metal material response
• NN flow stress prediction was carried out on the basis of laboratory data of the mild steel stress-strain behaviour under hot compression tests
• The results were in good agreement with the experimental data, showing that the NN approach can accurately describe the material flow stress under those processing conditions
