Multi-agent based integrated quality systems

Authors: Ercan Oztemel, Esra Kurt Tekez

Abstract

The rapidly changing needs and opportunities of today’s global market require interoperability to integrate different manufacturing functions in order to share knowledge and collaborate among organizations. Interactions are the key means for sharing knowledge among agents to coordinate towards certain manufacturing goals. In order to successfully and profitably operate in a rapidly changing market, it is necessary to integrate different manufacturing functions, evaluate manufacturing processes and improve the process performance in an integrated manner. This paper set outs a methodology for modeling agent based quality systems in manufacturing environments. The proposed methodology is supported with a case study.

Dear Authors,

A number of multi-agent manufacturing systems has been mentioned in the Introduction section. However, none of these systems is relevant to quality which is the subject of the paper. Are there other agent-based quality systems?
It would be better to review and compare the existing agent-based quality systems with the proposed one.

Regards,
Afify

Thank you for your question. The references provided in our paper includes quality agents as well.

Our systems is specifically designed for quality systems and process improvements. The main focus of the paper also creating interactive quality agents highlighting the knowledge exchange capability provided. Please note that the concept of knowledge protocol as opposed to data protocols is fairly new to agent comunity.

Esra Kurt Tekez
