Modelling and Simulation of Manufacturing Systems in Different Life Cycle Phases
This article presents needs and solutions to enhance use of modelling and simulation in manufacturing system life cycle phases, from concept creation, to design and operations. The challenges in manufacturing system design using discrete event simulation are shown. Simulation models are usually used for system design evaluation, in the analysis of the system concepts and in the testing of system specification with virtual, digital system. Rarely the simulation model are used in the system operation planning phase as decision support tool for the production managers, even if benefits of the method are known. Due to increasing complexity the model building is time consuming phase. Ideas to speed up the modelling process are presented as well need for the neutral data interface. The article is based on the authors’ own experience in production system simulation.

I shall look you questions later on details.
First just some comments.
We were trying to point out, that there are different need from simulation technology in diffeent manufacturing system life cycle phase. In system concept creation we need fast visualisation of conceps, (quick and dirty) and later on with proper specification and requirements we are able to go detailed level production system analysis. Our goal is to expand use of simulation (factory simulation, DES). As we pointed out normally simulation is used only in the system design phase (from concept to detailed analysis). But in digital manufacturing engineering there are many other uses and we can expand the simulation model life cycle. Model itself is a knowlegde rich document of the system and if we create metodology to evolvable model update (any changes in real life system is automatically updated to simulation virtual world) we realy could use more efficiency the the simulation model for system chainge management, operational planning and so on.
The other other life cycle issues is with simulation we can study the planned production system life phases, future updates and so.
There are lot of challenges in manufacturig system modelling and simulation

Dear authors,
Thanks for your contribution to IPROMS2007 and uploading the presentation on time. The paper described the use of discrete event simulation in different production system life-cycle phases. One of the important parts of the concept creation phase for system life-cycle phase is to use the new design to solve an existing problem, but how the problem solving approach is simulated in the concept creation phase in system life-cycle is not described detail, could you please describe more in detail and add references in this regard? cheers.
