IPROMS 2007 presentations

I'll try to explain some of the reasoning behind this year presentation format and why video of all things.

During the 1st conference we were ambitious and had html based presentations derived from S5, as this caused a lot of confusion for the authors so we switched to YouTube style screencasting last year.

You can use your favourite tool to prepare a presentation. Then capture your presentation delivery off the screen. In my opinion this is a minor headache and complication, while maintaining the advantage of presenting the content for all (ok, most) platforms.

Why not upload the powerpoint file then?

Well, because we can't embed it into the webpage and you will need to download and view it in a separate viewer. We want it to be part of the webpage, not separate. Additionally, you can upload the powerpoint, impress, keynote or whatever else you use for preparing your presentations.

But video? It sounds complicated

No, it's not. It took me an extra half an hour more than usual, to prepare a presentation and present it. This time includes the software download and installation.

Ok so how do I do it?

You can have a look at the video presentation howto from IPROMS 2006. It is not as advanced and complex as it sounds at first.

O'Reilly also have a nice how to on preparing a screen cast.

For more background information wikipedia has several nice articles on screencasting, podcasting and vid/videocasting.

Finally you should be able to upload your presentation as soon as the conference themes have been finalised.
