Grand challenges and technological developments in textile manufacturing industry

This paper presents an industrial assessment model for textile industry and provides the result of the assessment of current technological developments. It highlights the importance of technical and intelligent textiles as well as automation systems. The paper presents the grand challenges to be faced by the industry and lists out the driving forces of the sector. It also recommends a simple road map to adapt to the technological developments.

I am pleased to welcome your participation in IPROMS 2007 as the co-chairman of this session. I would be very happy if you could submit your presentation so that others can know more about your assessment model for textile sector. I noted your assessment suggested various activities which utilises high level of expertise and technology to enhance the competitiveness of the textile sector.

I hope you elaborate on whether your assessment model consider the sources to deal with the capital and operational cost involved to sustain such your continuous monitoring assessment system and where the industry is going to get the funding to implement all technological and R&D activities proposed by your model
