Gentelligent factory structures and assembly control

Authors: Prof. Peter Nyhuis, Mr. Frank Fisser, Mr. Matthias Schmidt

Abstract

This paper shows the basic concept of Gentelligence, which is based on information directly saved on the
component itself. The advantages for the logistic and the impact on future factory structures are highlighted. These
factories have to fulfil certain criteria which are demanded by the new components. Furthermore the components
enable possibilities like a component driven assembly control. This new concept is described in its first steps and the
expected impacts on the logistical performance is shown.

Hello,

A very interesting paper. Correct me if I'm wrong. I believe this paper has given the concept of Gentelligent and what it is all about. The research on using information and communication technology to automatise a factory input and output system is very impressive.

Can you give extra insights on how the Gentelligent can cope with conflicts? For e.g., when there are more than one product needed to be delivered to customer at one time and they need some similar parts, how to determine their priority? Do you need a central control to resolve the conflict?

Thanks.
