Extraction of the grey levels from the image

According to light scattering theory, when light is reflected from a surface it carries information about that reflecting surface. Therefore, for the proposed reconstruction work, the reflected light from a physical object is recorded on a film or on an imaging sensor as grey intensity levels, then digitized and converted pixel by pixel to a 3-D data format. The thickness (or the height along Z-direction) of a single position on the reconstructed surface corresponds to the grey intensity of the recorded pixel from that position. The x-y coordinates of the position maintain a linear relationship to its real position on the 2-D image.
