Early design analysis using rough set theory
This paper proposes a rough set based approach to early design analysis. The approach aims at providing a metrics to facilitate the evaluation of design concepts and enable early detection of inadequacy in design. Based on the rough set theory, an information system can be constructed using information such as design concepts and design capabilities gleaned from past designs. This information is then used to derive a set of design rules for the analysis of new design concepts. The proposed approach embodies a novel technique for the handling of unavailable information, which is a frequent occurrence in product design. The details of the approach, the novel technique and a case study are presented in this paper.

Could you please explain in detail why adopting "UA" has the advantages? As there may be some other solutions for deriving hybrid design rules based on two similar but different product.

By using 'UA' as unavailable information, the rest of information related to the object is not ignored. In fact, the usage of 'UA' aims to facilitate the inclusion of objects with differing attributes set into the rule generation. The existing attributes values of these objects help to broaden the search.
I hope this clarifies your query.

Hi, I just wonder if we used 'UA' for unavailable information, is that means we just ignoring the the rest of information that is related to this. (In your example case study, we ignoring Bike A and Bike B -refer to Table 2)
