Workflow - according to the Workflow Management Coalition (WfMC):

"The automation of a business process, in whole or part, during which documents, information or tasks are passed from one participant to another for action, according
to a set of procedural rules."

In many domains different from engineering workflow management proved to be an appropriate means to increase people's efficiency and effectivity. It is believed that workflow technology is able to solve the problems of today's engineering, too. However, the characteristics of engineering activities are quite different from those performed in other company domains.
