Decision Support System for Virtual Organization Management

authors: Jiri Hodik, Jiri Vokrinek, Radek Hofman

The Decision Support System (DSS) for Virtual Organization Management is a component of the Virtual Organization (VO) management toolkit, which is being developed in the ECOLEAD project. The DSS mainly supports VO operational and strategic management by simulated rescheduling and reconfiguration of a VO. Such simulations allow “what-if-analysis”, verifying and comparing various configurations and their robustness, discovering possible bottlenecks, and pre-preparing potential adaptations of VO configuration and schedule. The outputs are presented in a “human-friendly” way to support the VO manager in decision about and negotiation for VO adaptation.

Dear authors,

Your simulation of human behaviour and its effect on collaborative projects is very interesting.

I have a couple of questions for you.

Have you tested your approach in large consortiums (e.g. Networks)?

How do you model 'unstable behaviour'?

You use interesting qualitative descriptors of VO partners behaviour (lazy, reliable, hard working, etc.). Do you use stereotyping to model partners?

Regards,

The DSS tool is being prepared for testing in a real-life business environment now. The testing starts within few weeks in a network of companies from the machine industry.

Each behavior pattern is modeled by a set of parameters describing probability of some event. Therefore, in each run of the simulation the effect of the behavioral pattern is different. The behavior pattern influences when and whether the task will be fulfilled and how the real (actually, the simulated) due date correlates with the concluded one. The behaviors reliable, late, unstable and falling are examples of basic negative behavior patterns. Of course there is also a behavior influencing the task in a positive way like possibility of earlier finishing the task than concluded. In the DSS, you can create and configure your own patterns. In the presentation you can see following examples: hard-working, reliable, and lazy.
