I*PROMS 2008 presentations

Vlado's picture

No changes this year - short video presentations. If you don't know how to prepare one - please read some of the previous posts or look up screencasting on the interweb.

As a general advice - keep them short, to the point. While we don't enforce any time limits, keeping them under ten minutes is advisable. Not many people will be interested in longer videos.

How to you upload your presentation?

Short version: Find your paper. Select edit. Attach the video - the button is towards the bottom of the form. Submit the changes.

You can find the paper through a topic you assigned it to, or by looking it up in the list of all conference papers (by topic).

If the email address you've entered for your profile is exactly the same as an email address of an author of your paper you will see an edit tab below the title of the paper.

Follow the link and you will see the page edit form. You can correct the title, abstract, etc... And you can attach additional material - for example your video presentation.

When you are done. Submit your changes.

The last item left to mention is when to upload the presentation. The final papers will appear online later this week. The authors will be recognised by their email addresses, so be careful which email address you use in your user registration.

Update: All accepted papers are online now. There are a couple of papers wich are still awaiting decision, if they are accepted they will be made available.

Subscriptions bug quashed

There was a bug in the subscriptions code, so some subscriptions were not registered, although reported to be. It is fixed now. You might need to subscribe again. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

yet unknown paper owner - what does it really mean?

Vlado's picture

We automatically transfer the papers and abstracts from The paper submission system. The default owner of the paper is the assigned contact, who is identified by their email. If they have registered as a user after the transfer, we need to manually, for the time being, reassign the author.

So if you see 'yet unknown' for the owner of your paper, please drop us an email. You can contact me via my contact form. Please indicate your user name and the paper concerned. It would be very helpful if you paste in the url of the paper too.

Screencast file sizes

Vlado's picture

Your screencast, that is your presenation, should be no more than 30MB. We have to balance convenience with disk space, and the latter is very hard to judge. We have updated the overall quotas for this year, to take into account the presentations from previous years.

First post-conference impressions

Vlado's picture

The video presentations seem to be an improvement from last year. This year's bad thing is the multiple websites, and thus usernames, involved in the submit→review→accept→publish→make-presentation→discuss process. That caused a huge spike in the workload of the organisers and we could barely manage it. For next year, we need to improve it.

Video encoding/decoding problems

A few people contacted me noting that they can't view a video. WIt is unfortunate and a consequence of a very fragmented rapidly developing technological area, it is a simple fact of life.

A few possible remedies to reduce the pain.

Don't forget to subscribe to the IPROMS 2006 group

Vlado's picture

I guess it is a bit confusing reusing the word subscribe. It is recommended that you subscribe to the IPROMS 2006 group. If you haven't done it, after loggin in to the website you will see subscribe in the IPROMS 2006 block/tab to the lefthand side on the home page. Just click on the link and it is done. This doesn't mean you will be receiving email notifications.

Do you know that you could subscribe to receive emails when there is a new comment or new paper or topic in the conference

Vlado's picture

Well, you could get notifications. And it is really easy. When you are on the front page of the conference, you should see your subscriptions to the left of the page. You can subscribe for email notifications, or just grab the RSS feed.

Welcome to IPROMS 2006

Vlado's picture

We trust you will find your visit to our IPROMS 2006 website useful.

If you are new to the conference you might want to look at the various "How-To" documents available.

If you are an author, please prepare and submit a video presentation. Make sure that you or a co-author 'own' the paper. This will allow you to edit it and upload a presentation.

We look forward to your participation in IPROMS 2006.
