An Auto ID-enabled framework for manufacturing information
Authors: Zude Zhou, Peng Hu
Abstract
The current research of Auto ID (Automated Identification) boosts the applications in a broad spectrum including manufacturing and supply chain. This paper proposes an information sharing system framework dwelling on the smooth and integral information access of manufacturing information (e.g. product information, design information and sales information etc.), and the whole product lifecycle management of products. Also, Auto ID system provides a method for a product to rapidly retrieve its needed information when it is transmitted through shop floors and supply chains, during which the generated information by Auto ID readers in return can facilitate manufacturing scenarios in stages of the whole product lifecycle such as its ordering, design and production. Taking advantage of such information enhancement, a corresponding framework AIDMISS (Auto ID-enabled Manufacturing Information Sharing Systems) enabling the manufacturing information sharing process in manufacturing processes across enterprises is suggested. A case study concerning clutch manufacturing scenario is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed framework on the manufacturing enterprise.

Having read the paper which I found to be very good I was wondering if a prototype of the AIDMISS Framework has been developed and do you have any experience how the industry accept it?

Dear Authors,
I have the comments and questions about your paper as follows.
Comment and question No.1 :
There are errors in the typing and English in the paper. Could you please reedit & upload the paper. The following are the examples:
Page 1: taking advantage the manufacturing information (MI) >> taking advantage of the manufacturing information (MI)
Page 1: plays a important role >> Play an important role
Page 2: This papers mainly intent >> This paper mainly intents
Page 3: Apart from the application in supply chain >> Apart from the application in the supply chain
Comment and question No.2 :
Different departments (design, production, quality control, material resources planning, marketing, etc..) have different ways of using the product and manufacturing information. It is for sure that the use of the MI sharing system is useful , and stimulate the collaborative design and working environment as well as concurrent engineering.
However, the more information is added to the system and the more people involving in the system, the more complexity of securing, modifying and retrieving the information that we have to face. In addition, storing, tracking and retrieving the MI is important, but the solutions of using the MI effectively and collaboratively is even more important for the companies.
My question is that, in your proposed MI sharing system and in the real scenario and case study of production and manufacturing plants,
(i) do you classify and structure the information and data into different types? and practically, how the person who accesses the IM sharing system can change, edit, input and retrieve the necessary information that he or she need conveniently and securely? Are there any software or tools commercially available for AIDMISS that were used in your case study?
and
(ii) Especially, how to stimulate the collaborative and innovative actives among the departments and persons who use Auto ID-enabled Manufacturing Information Sharing Systems?
Many thanks,
Hieu-Le, the MEC, Cardiff University, Wales, UK.

Dear Conference Participants,
Welcome to Production E-manufacturing, E-business and Virtual Enterprises Session of IPROMS 2008. First let me introduce myself - my name is Alex Noyvirt and I am your co-chair for this session. I will like to welcome all visitors to this session and encourage them to actively participate, e.g. ask questions and make comments. To post a comment you need to register on the website which of course is free of charge.
Also I would like to thank the authors for their effort to submit good quality papers in this session.
Authors in addtion it will help the visitors to understand better your papers if you could prepare a video presentation and upload as an attachment to your paper. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you need assistance how to do this. My email is: NoyvirtA@cf.ac.uk.
